new diet

via GPTSC
This week the Dr. told me my FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) levels are high. Essentially what this means is that it will be harder for me to have children, always, because my ovarian reserve is low. While there is no way to fix this (although we are starting different treatments to try and get around it) I did read online that a Mediterranean diet and fish can help encourage my body. Sign me up. So I am looking for Mediterranean and fish recipes, any suggestions?

P.S. I hate fish so if you have any recipes or tips on how to cook fish so that it looses it's fishy taste let me know!

  1. salmon. it's the only kind i like - so far. get it from costco - you can cut it up into portions and freeze them individually. Then put aluminum foil on a pan and put fish on top. Sprinkle lemon pepper liberally and then pour a generous amount of teriyaki sauce over it - flip and repeat. Put in oven to broil ( could do on grill) for about 20 minutes - or until it is browning and done in the middle. call me.

  2. i hate fish too! but i have found that chillean sea bass and king fish doesn't have that much fish taste. i make it chinese style, which is to pan sear it with vegetable oil. when it's cooked, sprinkle on some soy sauce and maybe hot sauce. I am sure u can pan sear it with olive oil and add some sprigs of rosemary or oregano to make it mediterranean :)

  3. I'm not a well of info on any cooking subject, but I think salmon is the least "fishy" of all the fish. And, it may sound strange, but sushi doesn't taste fishy, either. Good luck!!

  4. Is this the answer to my comment on your "cradle" post or are you pulling an April Fools joke? Sorry, I just hate this holiday!

  5. Gwen,
Neither. It's just been on my mind this week which can account for the cradle post as well as this one.

    Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

  6. Try mahi-mahi.
I had it just last night. It is delicious (with real melted butter on top and a squirt of lemon).

And I don't know for sure, but I bet taking fish oil capsules would help too!

  7. Karen Mitton sent me this recipe and it was fantastic. Really, really good. I used tilapia, and I didn't have frozen hash browns, so I just grated some potatoes and salted them before putting them on the fish. Honestly, the whole family loved it.

    Potato Encrusted Whitefish

Make the sauce first (fish doesn't keep warm well)
    Sauce:
1/2c. dry white wine (or 1/4c water, 2 TBL White Wine vinegar, 1/4c. chicken stock)
    3TBL. lemon juice
    2 ttsp. minced garlic
    2 TBL chopped green onions
    10 TBL butter

    FISH:
6 4oz. fillets whitefish (cod, tillapia...)
    8 oz. thawed hashbrowns

    salt fish
    dip in flour
    dip in beaten eggs (2)
    set on a cookie sheet
sprinkle with hashbrowns and press on the fish

Put a bit of olive oil and butter in a fry pan.
Fry HASHBROWNS DOWN first for 3 minutes, then flip for 3 more minutes.

    Serve with sauce.
    YUM
