Winters will never see anything close to a single digit temperature
Housing is cheap
Possibility for some fantastic Mexican restaurants
Cons:
Summers will be HOT, HOT, HOT
It is 5 miles from the border which given the troubles border cities have had recently is something to consider...
The airport is more of a regional airport
I looked through 40 pages of pictures, these were the best I could find. That makes me nervous. Very, very nervous...

Nate's dad is the mission pres. in McAllen. We've been down to visit them a few times since living in Dallas and we were actually very impressed. I was expecting a rural, po-dunk border town but they have seriously everything you could ever need and yes the Mexican food is AWESOME. I'd say it has a very tropical feel to it. They live about 10 minutes from the border and even though there are border patrols driving around here and there I've never felt unsafe or anything and his parents haven't mentioned anything about that part of it. Anyway, good luck with the job hunt and selling your place and everything!
