Nie Nie Day

So tomorrow has been declared Nie Nie Day by Design Mom. I don't know how many of you have been following this story but it has really touched me. I have started reading C Jane Run everyday for updates on how her sister and brother-in-law are recovering from their severe burns from a plane crash. Here is a post I loved about Nie Nie. So back to the point, tomorrow many blogs are hosting auctions where all the proceeds will go to Stephanie and Christian's recovery fund. One of my little girl necklaces is being auctioned off at A Room Somewhere. The auction starts at midnight tonight and goes through the weekend. I believe that Design Mom will be putting up links to other auctions as well as hosting her own.

Toronto

Here are some pictures from my weekend jaunt to Toronto.

The is Casa Loma, the Canadian Castle. It was built by a rich Canadian in the early 1900's. He went bankrupt after one of the World Wars so most of the furnishings are not original to the home. It is still worth the trip to see the castle, garden and the details you find in the house.

One of the things I loved about Toronto was that you would find a beautiful Victorian building sandwiched between more modern buildings.

In my opinion the Distillery District is a must see. It was so much fun to look around. They took these buildings (I think they were factories) and turned them into upscale boutiques. I loved it.

I am so glad that we got to visit, the city has so much character and was so much fun to tour.

Headboards

After three years of a bed with no headboard we are ready to take the plunge, at least at the second hand store. You never realize how important a head board is until you don't have one. Something has to stop your pillow from falling down the black hole between the bed and the wall. Here are some I found online that I like.
I think the one I buy I will paint white, I like this white one from PB.
This one reminds me of the bed from Bedknobs and Broomsticks, a Disney classic. I love it.

I like this one from Pottery Barn, maybe I should paint my imaginary new head board red, it would break up the white wall.

For Tiffany

My good friend Tiffany is pregnant and wants some shoes that will provide her with more support and comfort than flip flops. She asked for suggestions and here is what I found...

I really like these shoes from Land's end and they are called comfort moccasins, so that sounds like it fits the criteria.

These ones are way cute and they look like they will have arch support.

Lands End has orthopedic inserts that will give added support and you can move

These ones look like they will slip on easily and they look very comfortable.

These ones look like they will be more comfortable than your ordinary flip flop but probably not the most ideal!

China

This is from Johnson Brothers. I think it is called English Castles. I love it, I almost bought a set 5 years ago in England. It comes in blue as well. The only thing that I would worry about now is that Johnson Brothers has moved their production to China from England, I would only worry that the quality...
This is the Florentine China from Wedgewood, I love everything about it.

I LOVE the Chatsworth Fine Bone China from Wedgewood, I think it is beautiful!
This is the china I registered for when I got married (almost three years ago.) Wedgewood discontinued it around the same time and we found that there wasn't a full set to be found in the whole state! Luckily for me it looks as though they have started making it again!

I got bored the other day and started looking at china. I never got a set when I got married (see above) but I still want to get a set someday...

Olympic Party

The Summer Olympics are almost here. I love the Olympics. I am so excited to watch my favorites- diving, gymnastics, soccer and track and field. To celebrate the start of the games we are having a little party this weekend, we are going to watch the opening ceremonies. I am going to be keeping it simple be serving homemade ice cream. I think I will try making the sorbet in the food post below, as well as good old fashioned raspberry. I found a website that gave me a couple of fun ideas.

I found a recipe for homemade fortune cookies here, they sound really easy and I think they will be really fun for our Opening Ceremonies Party. I think I may find some Olympic trivia and make a little game out of that.

When I think about the Olympics I always think of the Salt Lake Winter games, I have never seen more amazing fireworks.
