guest blogger camille: birding

Nothing announces the arrival of spring like birds chirping outside of your window. The birds have begun to chirp, and we have had some spring like days, so I hope spring is almost here to stay.
I decided this year to make spring a little more visible to my kids by buying a bird feeder. I went to Home Depot and bought an inexpensive thistle feeder and some finch food and hung it right outside our front window. Hopefully, the birds will begin feeding, and even on the cold and snowy winter days that are sure to come, we can watch the birds and realize spring is just around the corner!

While we were outside putting up our feeder our neighbor came over and told us that we live on a bird "flyway". There are four major American migratory flyways. I am on the Atlantic Flyway. Driving on the freeway we have noticed flocks and flocks of birds like pictured below:

Check out this map to find out if you are on a migratory flyway:

Bring spring to your front window and buy or make a bird feeder!!
