time traveler's wife

I haven't read the book but I have heard it is good. I am a sucker for previews and the previews for this movie look awesome. I really want to see it.

what makes me happy

Today it is my Queen Elizabeth stamp necklace. My Dad has a fairly large stamp collection and he let me go through and pick out stamps to make into necklaces. I choose a red version of this stamp. I love it, it makes my day just that much better.

birthstone necklace

I have had a couple of friends who have been looking for ways to incorporate their children's birthstones into a necklace. I saw this necklace on Etsy today and it is one the best birthstone necklaces that I have seen.

reading list

The Bostonians by Henry James
I got this one at Barnes and Noble. I have read part of Turn of the Screw but don't remember it that well. The back cover got me. I read the first chapter last night and so far so good.

A good friend recommended these two novels by Curtis Sittenfeld, a new favorite author of hers.
Prep and American Wife, which is supposedly based loosely on Laura Bush.

22 home tours

Today I have been perusing Martha's 22 home tours. This was one of my favorites. I especially love the wood floors.

brown shoes

My sister is in need of brown or "chocolate" colored shoes to wear to a wedding. Here are my favorite options.

These don't actually come in brown but I love them anyway.

Simple, classic.

I think these might be my favorite. I think they are formal enough but everyone else in the world may not concur.

Another option, these are cheap at 24.99 but like I said the sandals are my favorite.

I picked these solely for the shock factor.

travel tuesday: bar harbor, maine

Bar Harbor, Maine is a town located on the coast of Mount Desert Island. It was first settled in 1763 and in the late 1800's it became a famous summer spot for the rich and famous.

Bar Harbor is located near Acadia National Park. This photo is from Cadillac Mountain.

Since it is a coastal town there are lighthouses aplenty. Random fact, did you know that the Statue of Liberty was used as a lighthouse until the early 1900's?

This picture epitomizes how I picture Maine in my head. Lots of schooners.

Many of the large estates from the late 1800's and early 1900's have been turned into Bed and Breakfast spots. This is Cleftstone Manor.

The coast of Bar Harbor.

mint chocolate chip ice cream

we made some homemade mint chocolate chip ice cream last night and it was so good. We found the recipe here. Next time I think I might try using chocolate curls (as seen on Pioneer Woman Cooks) instead of chopping up chocolate chips.
