cabin bedrooms

Today I have been searching cabin bedrooms. I found close to nothing. Most cabin bedrooms on Google could easily be mistaken for a seedy motel, no thanks. Although there are few examples, a cabin (or cottage) can still have beautiful rooms sans motel blankets and pre-fabricated quilts.

From my hours of searching I have determined these are the basics for a rustic room.

Simple. Cabin decor should be simple and rustic. Wooden rocking chairs? Perfect.

Warm. Those paper thin motel-esque bed lines? They won't keep you warm at night and they don't look good. A good white comforter is essential.

Quilts. Perfectly acceptable, they add a touch of the rustic and they are generally warm. I think the best way to showcase them is at the foot of the bed. At the very least fold the top over so you can see some white from the sheets or comforter. None of this fold the quilt over the pillows so you see nothing else.

goat cheese torta

I just tried something very similar to this recipe for a layered goat cheese torta, it was quite simply amazing. So amazing that I immediately googled it to see if I could find a recipe. Hizzoner's has the closest.

So from what I can take from what I sampled and what I saw on the recipe the cheese is a mixture of garlic, cream cheese and goat cheese. The layers are chopped sun dried tomatoes and pesto. I will be trying this in the very near future, it is perfect for book club.

the perfect built in bunk bed

Little Moth has found yet another perfect bunk bed. This one is exactly what I envision for our eventual cabin remodel (well, maybe the beds will be a little longer so they can possible fit an adult). Train style bunk beds at home, I love it.

halloween

I saw this tutorial on Dana Made It. I am sorely tempted to spend my Friday night cutting out bats for my party on Saturday.

I spent this last Friday and Saturday painting with my Mom. This was my second attempt at painting, it went better than my first attempt but I am still lacking in the technique department. My Mom says it will come with practice, we will see...

painting

My Mom is visiting right now. She decided on Wednesday to make a stop over on her way to my sisters (who is due any day now). She is taking on the monstrous task of trying to teach me how to paint in two days. Could be spectacular or a complete disaster, only time will tell. I think I have narrowed my choice of pictures down to these three.

post script

Of course I didn't notice that those earrings are NOT hypo-allergenic until after I posted. For me, non hypo-allergenic means ear infections, not so much fun. Here are simple, classic studs with sterling silver posts. I love Sundance.

post earrings

I have been wanting some new stud earrings. I love these two options. Small, simple and interesting, a perfect combination?

pantry re-vamp

I have had this picture on my mind for months, this pantry is beyond amazing.

About two months ago I opened a bag of rice to find weevils. I went and bought my first Oxo storage container that day along with a new bag of rice. I remembered seeing this picture of a pantry re-vamp on Life Frosting and decided to do a similar re-vamp rather than shoot for the first pantry. I have slowly been acquiring the Oxo containers, it is a work in progress. The few Oxo's that I already have? Awesome and weevil-less.

hair coloring

Every couple of years I get the urge to color my hair. Once I did some red tints, some serious blonde highlights followed by an at home complete blonde dye which will never, ever, ever be repeated. I now leave coloring to the professionals.

So now to the present question. I am not up for high maintenance highlights or hair in general. But the new trend of two tone hair might be up my alley.

I like Jessica Biel's take myself.

sizable

I read an article on Yahoo! about making the most of small kitchens. Here were my favorite parts:

I needed this visual inspiration for my kitchen. Above the cupboards, this photo looks beautiful while above my cupboards looks like a stash pile.

They suggest either high ceilings or having cupboards that go all the way to the ceiling. I like the idea of maximizing all the space, including the high spaces.

single serving pie

via our best bites
Our Best Bites featured one of the best ideas I have ever seen. That's right, ever. Mini pies in mason jars. You make the dough, press it into a clean jar, add filling then you can either bake them immediately or you can put the lid on and freeze them for later. Absolutely brilliant.

tree nursery

A friend from college posted pictures of her nursery in progress, she included a link to her inspiration and when I clicked over I saw this beautiful room. Needless to say I think my friend's nursery is going to turn out equally amazing.

clogs

Have you noticed clogs slowly making their way up the fall trends ladder? I can get behind these anthropologie clogs, lovely.

After seeing what Anthropologie had to offer I went over to Piperlime to see what Rachel Zoe had to say. This is what Rachel Zoe picked. Really Rachel? I think Ralph Lauren also deserves a big question mark on this one.

rustic

I was perusing Anthropologie today and noticed they have suggestions for different home styles. This beauty comes from the "modern cabin" section. I love it.

reading books as of late

I finished reading this book about a month ago. I thought it was mediocre. One of the hardest things with infertility is learning to cope with the emotions, the side affects, for me getting shots everyday has been a struggle, and finding good and helpful information.

I was hoping to find some ways to cope and good information but this book is all about people telling their story, which is good, but not what I was looking for.

My sister's friend highly recommended this book so it is next on my list.

I found this book on Amazon, I haven't decided whether or not to get it but I am intrigued by it.

Any recommendations?

goodnight moon

I love the idea of a nursery with a variety of moon paintings. It gives it a nostalgic kind of feeling.

I already own the last one. I want to add to the moon collection.

costuming

I love Martha's costumes. Here are my two favorites this year.

I would definitely be making one of these if I wasn't already slated to be Napolean.

nurseries

My sister-in-law found out she is pregnant with twin boys this week, this will make 16 nephews and 1 niece on my husband's side of the family. I spent some time finding fun nurseries tonight while my husband watched football, thanks for the distraction Danielle!
