likely

Fair warning, posting will likely be light this week. I made it to Boston and am seeing all the historical sites, I am loving it! Tomorrow I am off to Salem.

heirloom

via nesting place
My husband was given a small frame with buttons from his great-grandmother's collection sewn to it (it looks way cooler than it sounds). It needs a setting like this. The silhouette above the mirror? Perfection.

baby grand

I was talking about pianos with a friend last week. She is a real pianist, the kind who accompanied all our school choirs growing up. Naturally she would like a real piano to utilize her real skills, a baby grand. I teasingly told her she should get a white one like John Lennon which started a conversation on different colors of baby grands. She would like a natural wood one. The idea grew has been growing on me and this picture from Martha Stewart (ironic that the friend I was talking to is also named Martha) sealed the deal. For myself I would like an upright piano.

P.S. I bought myself some TOMS last night. I decided to go with stripes, they looked better. I am wearing them at work to break them in, so far so good!

800th post and a giveaway!

I love this style of vanity, with some bright towels and a bigger basket it would be perfect.

The idea of a raised bathroom sink intrigues me. I can't think of one that I have seen in person but the ones I have seen online have stirred my interest.

And to the giveaway....
We have a giveaway courtesy of the lovely vanity store Just Vanities. Enter to win a $40 gift certificate which can be redeemed at any of the 200+ CSN stores.

To enter leave a comment on this post. You can get a bonus entry by becoming a follower of Paperwhite. The winner will be announced on Wednesday July 21st. Good luck!

children's art

When I saw this picture I immediately thought of my sister. Her daughter LOVES to draw and she is getting quite good. This would be a perfect way to showcase and keep her art.

up-do

I love this model's hairdo, it reminds me of a late Victorian hairstyle.

watch locket

I used one of my husband's old watches to try my hand at this new "wear men's watches" trend. After one night of wearing it I am not sure that the new trend and I gel.

So I went on Etsy and found an awesome Victorian-esque pocket watch necklace.

I can't wait for it to get here.

flourless chocolate cake

via Bakerella
My husband's birthday is on Friday and on Sunday we are going to have a dinner to celebrate. For his cake he requested the usual chocolate. This year I am going to try Bakerella's flourless chocolate cake. I think I might bake two and invite friends over for the party, I am excited.

calzones

photo via timeless gourmet
I started thinking about calzones yesterday, I don't know if I have ever had one before but I love the concept- homemade pizza pockets. I was getting ricotta to make this pasta recipe (which was delicious, next time I might double the ricotta though) and I decided to get a larger carton of ricotta to make calzones (according to wikipedia ricotta is traditionally used in them).

I found this Emeril calzone recipe (I will probably substitute chicken for the sausage) and this buffalo chicken recipe and I think I might try to make up a Mexican pizza calzone as well. I love how you can cater calzones and pizza to what you have on hand.

browsing

I was browsing houses online today I saw this bathroom, the bathtub looks amazing.

boston

In two weeks I am headed to Boston. I have only ever had a brief stop over in Boston, I am very excited to spend some quality time there. I will be seeing most of the big historical sites with my class but I have several afternoons and evenings to myself. I have been doing some research to find some good restaurants and sites to see but I am overwhelmed by the amount of information available. The only extra-curricular site I know I want to visit is Harvard. Any recommendations for restaurants and sites to visit?

summer pasta

This pasta recipe from Real Simple was highly recommended to me yesterday. I am excited to try it this weekend. Tonight we will be polishing off chicken shish kabobs basted with a peanut satay sauce. Yum.

cabins on my mind

I have had cabins on my mind since last week, can you tell? Here are some interiors I like for cabin spaces.

I don't really understand how they made the birch wall but I love the look of it.

As I recall my brother and mother are very pro log cabin, so exposed logs could be a good option for us.

I don't like real animal heads, they creep me out. This picture made me reconsider obviously fake animal heads.

The bed is what caught my eye in this picture.

I made an Ikea trip yesterday and came out with these two purchases.

A decorative pillow for my bed.

A new rug to go on my new faux wood flooring. Pictures to come...
